107. Blue Jeans Originated from India
In the 16th century, in the port city of Bombay (India) at the famous Dongre fort, a thick Indian cloth was purchased by Portugese. That was the birthday of Blue jeans.
In Hindi "Dongre" today means a thick cotton cloth. This cloth was dyed in Indigo colour and was sold to foreign traders. Since then it was called Blue denim or Blue jeans.
The very colour indigo is an Indian invention. This colour is named after India. Greeks called it Indicon and in Latin it is called "Indicom", which means a product from India.
